If you’re looking for a quick dinner idea, these Stuffed Texas Toast Pizzas are a crowd-pleaser!
If your family loves pizza (and who doesn’t?), here’s a fun, budget-friendly dinner idea — Stuffed Texas Toast Pizzas. This kid-friendly recipe just might become a new family favorite. Something else you’ll love…it comes together in about 20 minutes — perfect for busy weeknights!
The secret is using thick slices of Texas Toast as your pizza “crust.” When you press down the center of each slice, you create a little pocket that holds all that saucy, cheesy, pepperoni goodness in place. And the hot honey drizzle at the end? Total game changer. It’s a small touch that takes these over the top — now let’s get to the easy recipe!
Stuffed Texas Toast Pizzas
Here’s everything you need to make these tasty pizzas.
The first step is preheat the oven, and brown the ground turkey. Then after pre-baking the Texas Toast, use a spoon to create a shallow well in each slice.
Add a generous dollop of marinara or your favorite pizza sauce to the center of each slice.
Next, add a spoonful of the cooked meat to the center of each slice, and then sprinkle with shredded mozzarella.
You can also add pepperoni, olives, or any of your favorite pizza toppings.
Bake for about 10 more minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges of the toast are toasted.
Finally, drizzle with hot honey if you like a little extra kick.
You can easily make this recipe your own, depending on what your family likes. Here are some fun ways to switch things up:
Swap the Meat
Not a fan of turkey? Use Italian ground beef or Italian ground pork sausage instead. Both work great and give you that classic pizza flavor. Ground beef or chicken seasoned with Italian spices is another good option.
Go Meatless
Skip the meat altogether and load up your toast with extra sauce, cheese, and your favorite veggie toppings. Sliced mushrooms, diced bell peppers, black olives, and onions all work well.
Change Up the Toppings
Think of this like a personal pizza — anything goes! Try any of these:
- Crumbled bacon
- Sliced jalapeños or banana peppers
- Sun-dried tomatoes
- Sliced black or green olives
- Diced red onion
Try a Different Sauce
Marinara or pizza sauce is the classic choice, but you might want to try pesto, or even Alfredo sauce for a white pizza version.
Mix Up the Cheese
Mozzarella is perfect here, but provolone, a pizza blend, or a sprinkle of Parmesan on top all add great flavor.
Skip the Hot Honey
The hot honey drizzle is one of our favorite parts, but if you’re serving kids or just prefer things milder, leave it off — or use regular honey for just a touch of sweetness without the heat.
Make It a Snack or Appetizer
Cut each slice of Texas Toast in half or quarters for pizza toast pieces that are perfect for parties, game day, or after-school snacking.
Recipe Notes
- Italian ground turkey can be found in the meat section at Walmart and adds terrific flavor without the extra fat of ground beef. You can substitute regular ground turkey or ground beef if that’s what you have.
- Don’t skip the pre-bake step! It makes a big difference in keeping your toast crispy under all those toppings.
- Hot honey takes this recipe from good to amazing, but if you don’t have it on hand, regular honey or even a sprinkle of red pepper flakes works well too.

These pair great with:
