Looking for a show-stopping appetizer that’s both adorable AND budget-friendly? This Thanksgiving “turkey” snack tray is about to become your new favorite party trick! Even better, you can make this impressive-looking spread with just a few simple ingredients.

This kid-friendly “turkey” meat and cheese platter is super easy to put together (and only takes about 15 minutes), but it will wow your guests!
Here’s everything you’ll need to make your own Thanksgiving party tray.
- A large round tray or platter
- Small knife
- A box of your favorite round crackers, we loved Toasteds
- Colby Jack Cheese
- Pepper Jack cheese
- Sharp Cheddar cheese (or use any of your favorite cheeses)
- A package of pepperoni (thick-sliced), salami works well too
- 2 googly eyes (food-safe)
- Small piece of orange cheese for the beak
- Small strips of yellow cheese for turkey feet
How to Make Your Thanksgiving Snack Board
Step 1: Create the Outer Ring Start by arranging your crackers around the outer edge of your platter in a circular pattern, overlapping them as you see in our photo. These will form the “feathers” of your turkey’s tail.
Step 2: Add the First Meat Layer Working your way inward, create the next ring using your pepperoni slices. Overlap them slightly so you don’t see any gaps–this creates more layered “feathers.”
Step 3: Build Up with Cheese Now, cut square slices of cheese, and arrange them in the next ring inward. I alternated between the different cheese varieties to add interest.
Step 4: Continue Layering Keep alternating between crackers, meat, and cheese as you work toward the center. Don’t worry about making it perfect!
Step 5: Create the Turkey’s Head Arrange pepperoni slices in a circular cluster, like you see in our photo. Then add your googly eyes and create a small triangle beak and “wattle” with the cheese. Add two small yellow cheese strips at the bottom for feet.
Money-Saving Tips
- Shop store brands: Those Great Value cheeses work just as well as name brands and save you money!
- Buy in bulk: If you’re hosting multiple parties this season, buy the larger packages of cheese, crackers, and pepperoni.
- Repurpose leftovers: Any leftover cheese and crackers make perfect lunch snacks for the kids all week long.
Make-Ahead Magic
You can prep this Thanksgiving snack tray up to two hours before your guests arrive. Just cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate. The crackers stay crispy and everything looks fresh.
Why This Recipe Works
This isn’t just adorable–it’s practical! Having a variety of crackers, cheeses, and meat means there’s something for everyone. Even my pickiest eater found something he liked.
And, since we all like to save money, making this snack tray yourself costs way less than buying a pre-made one at the deli–not to mention it’s loads cuter.
Variations to Try:
- Add some veggies: Cherry tomatoes or orange bell pepper strips work great
- Switch up the meat: Turkey slices would be thematically perfect!
- Go fancy: Add some grapes or nuts if you want to splurge a little
This Thanksgiving “turkey” board proves that impressive doesn’t have to mean expensive or complicated. Your guests will think you spent hours on it, but we’ll keep the 15-minute secret between us!
