Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! craft

Horton Hears a Who Craft

Horton Hears a Who! is a classic children’s book, and to bring Horton to life, we have a fun paper craft you can do with your child. This is the perfect way to celebrate Dr. Seuss on his birthday, March 2nd, or to celebrate this wonderful story anytime.

Can you believe Horton Hears a Who! was published in 1954? This story of kindness and compassion is relevant today more than ever, so if you don’t already own it, you can pick up the book here.

List of Supplies:

  1. Colored craft paper
  2. Pencil
  3. Black Sharpie or marker
  4. Scissors
  5. Craft glue
  6. Quilling strips — Find pre-cut quilling strips here or learn to make your own here.
  7. Slotted quilling tool (or click here for alternatives)

Horton Hears a Who Craft Instructions:

Step 1: Select gray-colored craft paper for the elephant (Horton), and trace the template pattern on it. Cut out the traced pattern using scissors.

Step 2: Attach the head (medium circle), and the feet cut outs with the body cut out (big circle).

Step  3: Next, attach the ears and the trunk to complete the elephant paper craft.

Step 4: Using pink quilling strips, prepare quilled lens shapes with the strips.

Step 5: Cut out a small round paper from craft paper. This will be the base for the quilled flower.

Step 6: One by one, glue the quilled lens shapes on the small round cut out.

Step 7: Continue to glue the quilled lens shapes on the small round base cut out until it is filled in.

Step 8: Finally, attach a paper strip at the back side of the quilled flower for the stem. Glue the stem part of the quilled flower on the trunk of the elephant. Use black Sharpie or marker pen to trace the eyes, and other details of the paper elephant. Now your Horton the Elephant and his flower are complete!
