If your kids love LEGO (and really, whose don’t?), your local LEGO Store has a great lineup of free activities happening this September. We’re talking a free take-home Harry Potter build, a Pokémon GO tie-in with freebies, and the regular Little Builders class for your littlest fans. Here’s everything you need to know so you don’t miss out.
Free LEGO Micro Castle Build (Ages 6+)
This is the one to get on your calendar. LEGO Stores are hosting a free “make and take” event where kids build a mini Hogwarts castle and get to keep it — no purchase necessary.
- What you get: A free LEGO Micro Castle model, built in-store and yours to take home
- Who it’s for: Kids ages 6 and up
- Cost: Free, no purchase required
- Availability: While supplies last, one build per guest
- Dates: Happening at LEGO Stores throughout September, but the exact date and time varies by location
- Good to know: This build can’t be purchased anywhere — it’s part of LEGO’s annual Back to Hogwarts celebration, running August 29 through September 6
Because dates and times differ from store to store, call or check your local LEGO Store’s page before you head out so you’re not showing up on the wrong day.
Little Builders Classes (Ages 2-5)
If your child is a little younger, LEGO Stores run a free monthly class designed just for toddlers and preschoolers.
- What it is: A hands-on class that mixes developmental play with building skills
- Who it’s for: Kids ages 2-5
- Cost: Free
- How often: Held monthly at participating stores
- Sign-up: Spots are limited, so reserve yours ahead of time on the Little Builder Classes page
LEGO x Pokémon GO Partnership (Through September 30)
LEGO and Pokémon GO have teamed up again this year, and participating LEGO Stores in the US, UK, Poland, France, Germany, and Australia are running a bunch of freebies and in-store activities through September 30th.
- One Star Raids at participating locations
- Stamp Rallies you can complete in-store
- A LEGO-branded jacket for your in-game avatar, unlocked through event-themed Timed Research
- Event-themed stickers by spinning PokéStops at LEGO Store locations
- A LEGO Pokémon SMART Play demo, where kids can try the new interactive play sets and walk away with a collectible SMART Play Tag and a stamp for their LEGO Passport (while supplies last)
Dates and specific in-store activities can vary by location, so check your store directly for what’s available.
How to Find Events Near You
Since so much of this varies by store, your best bet is to go straight to the source:
- Find your nearest LEGO Store: LEGO Store Directory
- Little Builders class sign-up: Little Builder Classes
- Back to Hogwarts event details: LEGO Back to Hogwarts
A Few Tips Before You Go
- These are while-supplies-last events, so earlier in the day is almost always better
- Call ahead if you can — some locations require advance registration, others are first-come, first-served
- Bring the whole crew, but know it’s typically limited to one build per child
- If your mall has a LEGO Store, this is a great free outing to pair with a walk around the mall or a stop for a treat afterward
