To be honest, I prefer baking to cooking. Maybe it’s because when I bake something, it gets to be enjoyed a little bit longer. And, at our house, cooking can feel a little rushed as we try to get dinner on the table. Baking is something, at least for me, that’s done when there’s more time to get it just right. It’s more of a treat–literally!
Today, we have a free printable for you with four creative cakes to make from scratch. One of my favorites is a simple classic–pound cake. The name “pound cake” comes from the fact that the original pound cakes contained one pound each of sugar, butter, eggs, and flour. No leaveners were used other than the air whipped into the batter. In a time when many people couldn’t read, this simple recipe was easy to remember. Our recipe has almond extract to give it a little more flavor. I think the best way to eat pound cake is with fruit and whipped cream.
You’ll also love our caramel apple, cinnamon, and orange date nut cakes. Give them a try, and let me know what you think.
