To be honest, I prefer baking to cooking. Maybe it’s because when I bake something, it gets to be enjoyed a little bit longer. And, at our house, cooking can feel a little rushed as we try to get dinner on the table. Baking is something, at least for me, that’s done when there’s more time to get it just right. It’s more of a treat–literally!
Today, we have a free printable for you: Creative Cakes From Scratch, with four of our favorite cake recipes I know you’ll love. I think I might like pound cake the best of these four.
Did you know the name “pound cake” comes from the fact that the original pound cakes contained one pound each of sugar, butter, eggs, and flour? No leaveners were used other than the air whipped into the batter. In a time when many people couldn’t read, this simple recipe was easy to remember.
Our pound cake recipe has almond extract to give it a little more flavor. It’s delicious all on its own, but I think the best way to eat it is with fruit and whipped cream.
You’ll also love our caramel apple, cinnamon, and orange date nut cakes. Give them a try, and let me know what you think.
