Here’s an aluminum wire craft that you can learn quickly. These cute bookmarks make ideal little gifts too!
I love these pretty wire flower bookmarks! You can find them for sale on Etsy, or you can make your own for next to nothing with just a little practice. Make a few for yourself, or add them to the top of a gift by tying one or two onto a ribbon. If you give the gift of a book, tuck a couple of these inside. (We especially like them for teacher’s gifts.)
Once you get the hang of it, creating your own aluminum wire bookmarks is simple. Follow the steps and photos below.
If you get really ambitious, you could even come up with more designs, and sell these on Etsy or eBay!
Aluminum Wire Craft Bookmark Supplies:
- Aluminum craft wire – 16 or 18 gauge (I’ve linked to a package with several colors.)
- Craft pliers – looping, cutting and flat nose pliers
Template — Click here to print the template. (Template will print full-size.)
Instructions:
Step 1: Let’s start from the center twirl part of the flower template. Create a loop at the open end of the wire, and circle the wire around the loop twice to create a twirl pattern.
Step 2: Now use the wider part of the looping piers to create a scalloped line. Use the looping pliers to create the curve, and the flat nose pliers to tighten the joint between every two scalloped curves.
Step 3: We will need to create five scalloped curves for the flower; these are the petals of the wire flower.
Step 4: Now, wind the scalloped line (of wire) around the center twirl.
Step 5: Draw the wire’s open end towards the bottom side of the flower pattern, and place the wire pattern on the printed template to trace the next bend. Use the flat nose pliers to bend the wire along the stem part of the template.
Step 6: Keep the length of the stem, and then bend the wire upwards.
Step 7: Form the leaf shape with the wire, and then, bring the wire back to the bottom side of the stem.
Step 8: Bend the wire along the middle line of the wire leaf shape, and cut off extra wire as you see in the photo.

That’s a really neat idea. And, you could use them for more than bookmarks. I could see putting a small magnet on one, maybe painting the side of the magnet you’d see so it matches the flower, and using the on the fridge, either to hold papers or just to be pretty.
