Looking for a fun holiday kids’ craft? We have a good one for you today. There are lots of things you can make out of popsicle sticks, so we went to work and came up with this popsicle stick sled ornament.ย
These little sleds are so cute hanging on the Christmas tree, or you can use them as gift toppers.
I like to have the kids write their names and the year on these ornaments (you can help if needed). They make a great keepsake and are fun to look back on every year when you decorate the tree.
Popsicle Stick Sled Ornament
Supplies:
- Wooden craft sticks (You can find them on Amazon)ย
- Acrylic craft paint (You can find it on Amazon)
- Craft brushes (You can find them on Amazon)ย ย
- Holiday greenery (I found it on Amazon)
- Ribbon or twine (You can find it on Amazon)
- Glue Gun (You can find it on Amazon)
- White school glue, tacky glue, or wood glue
- Pencil
- Floral wire cutters (You can find them on Amazon)ย
- Craft scissors (You can find them on Amazon)ย
Popsicle Stick Sled Ornament Instructions:
Note: You can use the type of glue you prefer, or use a glue gun.
Steps 1-2: Measure, and using either the floral wire cutters or craft scissors, cut your wooden craft sticks into the following: (4)-2 ยฝโ pieces, (2)-3 ยฝ cm pieces and (1)-1 ยพโ piece.
Step 3: Paint your smaller pieces one color (be sure to paint the edges), and paint two full-size craft sticks, which will be the blades of the sled, another color. Allow the paint to dry completely.ย
Step 4: Glue the (4)-2 ยฝโ pieces together, using either a glue gun or the white school or tacky glue. Begin by gluing the two middle pieces together, joining them together in the middle. Allow the glue to dry completely. (Do this for each piece(s) you glue onto each other). Glue the next two pieces on either side, but measure down 1 cm, so your sled doesnโt go straight across on all four pieces (see photo).
Step 5: Once the four main pieces are totally dry, turn over. Measure down 1 ยฝ cm from the top and glue down one of the 3 ยฝ cm pieces onto the body of the sled. Measure up ยฝ cm from the bottom and glue the other 3 ยฝ cm piece.
Step 6: Take your 1 ยพโ piece, and measure in 1 ยฝ cm on the right side, and glue on your blades. We have the tip of our blade measuring out about 1 ยฝ cm from where we glued it on. Repeat on the other side. Be sure your glue is totally dry, and the blades are on sturdy before moving onto the next step.ย
Step 7: Now, glue the blades to the underside of your sled, and the let the glue set.
Step 8: Turn the sled over, and attach any embellishments or holiday greenery.
Step 9: Cut a length of ribbon or twine approximately 7-8โ long, form a loop, and tie in a small secure knot at the end. Allow your popsicle stick sled to dry completely.ย Then, hang it on your tree, and enjoy!ย
