Fall brings changing leaves, pumpkin spice, back-to-school traditions, and busy school schedules. It’s also a time to refresh all of those study skills submerged under the summer months’ pool parties and popsicles.
Math skills are especially hit hard by summer learning loss, but a little practice makes perfect! You can find all kinds of math games to help supplement classroom studies. We especially like this fun picnic printable math game!
There are a few ways to play depending on your child’s age and abilities:
Follow the recipes to create your favorite sandwiches as little ones count the ingredients they need to fill orders. Make the play more engaging by creating your own custom orders, or print out extra ingredients to make creative and wacky meals.
Each ingredient has a price, so follow the recipe, and add up the cost of each ingredient to determine the sandwich’s total cost. You can order custom sandwiches for a new challenge, or practice budgeting for a picnic by counting how many orders you’ll need and finding the total of all of them.
Once you figure out the cost of each sandwich recipe, you can remove ingredients, and figure out the new sandwich cost. Just like with addition practice, you can take custom orders to add or remove ingredients, and practice core math skills.
Plan a Picnic
As an artisan sandwich maker, your kids can plan a fall family picnic and apply the same math skills to real sandwiches. Use the same ingredient costs, or assign your own costs, to determine how much a real-life picnic would cost. Then, prepare your picnic. and enjoy a delicious day out with your family.
