letter to santa template

This letter to Santa template is such an endearing (and enduring) gift. It provides young children with an easy activity for Christmastime while enhancing the magic of the season in your child’s imagination.

This is a fun activity to share with your child, or, if they’re old enough to write and spell, let them do on their own. In the end, it’s a sweet reminder of your child’s innocence and a lovely memento to keep throughout the years.

I recommend saving these each year and putting them in a scrapbook or a binder. If you start saving these letters early, you could end up with a pretty impressive collection to look back on.

Letter to Santa Template

This letter is fill-in-the-blank, and it mostly includes basic information that children know or should know, like where they live. It also includes your child’s age, which I think is a nice touch for nostalgia purposes. Because this is a template, your child follows easy prompts to complete the letter, but it isn’t so simple that only very small children will want to do it. It has some cognitive elements to challenge growing children as well.

Letter to Santa as a Cognitive Exercise

The meat and potatoes of this letter to Santa template is the wish list portion. It contains categories for your child to think about, and it requires them to prioritize their wants. The letter includes five separate lists to be filled out by your child: Something–

  • I Most Want
  • to Wear
  • to Read
  • I Need
  • Fun

Creating a Christmas list with these criteria lets your child develop a more objective approach and think about needs in addition to wants. It provides a different set of expectations that allows for the things that many kids don’t easily get excited about such as clothes. For that reason, it is a clever and practical exercise that encourages cognitive development while remaining a fun activity for kids.
