Is getting fit one of your goals for the new year? If you’ve put it off because you don’t want to pay for a gym membership, or driving back and forth to the gym takes too much time out of your schedule, there’s no need to give up on your fitness goals.

You can get fit without the gym! And, you don’t have to invest in expensive equipment to do it.

Get Fit Without the Gym

So, how can you get a great workout without the gym? Here are a few inexpensive and effective workout ideas.

1. At-home workouts

If you want to exercise on your own schedule, stream some workouts on hulu or YouTube. You can also pick up some dvds. From cardio to dancing to pregnancy workouts, you’ll find something that’s right for you.

2. Yoga

Do you enjoy yoga? You can find free yoga workouts online. All you need is your own yoga mat.

You can also find all kinds of yoga on DVD—another convenient way to workout at home on your schedule.

3. Walk or jog your neighborhood

Why not take a walk or jog around your neighborhood? You just need a good pair of walking or running shoes. [Also read: 5 Reasons You Should Take Up Running]

4. Get a few inexpensive pieces of fitness equipment

Short of creating an entire gym in your home, pick up a few small items to help you toward your fitness goal. I’m talking about five or ten-pound dumb bells, resistance bands, kettle bells, a jump rope, or an aerobic exercise step.

Depending on what kind of workout you choose, you don’t need a lot in the way of equipment to get physically fit and improve your health.

5. Take up a sport

Finally, is there a sport or activity you enjoy? Playing tennis, soccer, skiing, swimming, or biking is great exercise and a terrific way to spend time with your family.

Any sport or activity you enjoy can give you a good workout if you do it regularly, even if it’s just for fun.

There are so many ways to stay fit without the gym, so don’t let anything keep you from reaching your fitness goals!

I would like to add YouTube, their are workout videos for every situation. I regularly watch yoga with Adrian. Her deep stretch video left me pretty sore the next day. Great post btw!
