The bedroom is one of the most important rooms in any home, even if itโ€™s seen by the fewest number of people. Itโ€™s your sanctuary, a calming, cozy place to retreat to at the end of a long day–at least it should be. If youโ€™re feeling tired and bored with your space, itโ€™s time to breathe life back into your bedroom.

And, updating your bedroom doesnโ€™t need to be expensive or difficult โ€“ there are plenty of things you can do in just a weekend that will make a huge impact! Read on for our five quick and easy ways to give your space a fresh new look and feel–without breaking the bank.

5 Ways to Breathe Life Back into Your Bedroom (on a Budget)

1. Refresh your bedding

A new bedding set can really give your space a fresh feel! Itโ€™s a great place to start when redecorating, as it helps to set the tone for the rest of your room. Once youโ€™ve chosen your favorite color and pattern options, youโ€™ve set yourself up with an overall theme.

This is also a good opportunity to update your pillows. According to the experts, we should be changing our synthetic pillows every couple of years, so take this opportunity to check that yours are in good order.

Investing in a new headboard is cheaper and easier than buying a new bed, but still packs a punch. Swapping your wooden headboard for a fabric one creates a brand new look. You could even try your hand at some DIY, and make your own fabric headboard.

Easier still, is adding height with pillows. All you need are two European pillows and a few small decorative cushions to transform your bed and give your bedroom some stylish flair.

2. Give your bedroom furniture a facelift

Is your bedroom furniture looking a little dated? Thereโ€™s no need to replace anything โ€“ all you need is some furniture polish, or sandpaper and paint, and youโ€™re good to go.

Give the bedside table and dressers a sand or buff with a bit of furniture polish, or refresh them with a coat of paint. You could also get some new drawer pulls. That tired, old furniture will be looking brand new in no time!

3. Declutter your space

A cluttered bedroom can increase our stress and anxiety, and even affect sleep. Sometimes all it takes to make your room look and feel brand new is a good old spring cleaning.

Giving bedside tables, shelves and dressers a quick tidying up each week will freshen up your space and help to make your room a relaxing, stress-free environment. Pick a few elements to keep on your bedside tables, and store other items away to help keep your room clutter-free.

4. Update lighting

Lighting is one of the most important features of a bedroom and is quick and easy to revive. Updating your existing bedside lamps is a cost-effective way to breathe new life into your room. Swap out current lampshades for new ones, or even spray paint the base of your lamp to add a splash of color.

5. Inject style and personality with decor

As we’ve mentioned, once you’ve chosen your bedding, you can build from there to create a cohesive space. Adding a few small decorative items and a plant or two is a terrific way to breathe life back into your bedroom.

This is a great starting point, but you donโ€™t need to stop there. Here are a couple of our favorite ways to make a big impact with a small budget.

Wall art

Including artwork in your room doesnโ€™t need to be expensive. A gallery wall of your favorite memories is a perfect feature for a bedroom that is both stylish and sentimental. Feel free to mix and match photo orientation and sizes using frames of the same style or color to create a sense of cohesion.

For maximum impact, keep art at eye level, and remember that hanging in odd numbers helps create a relaxed vibe that’s perfect for a bedroom.

Add more texture for a comfy vibe

Bringing more textures into your bedroom helps to soften the space and create a cocooning, cozy atmosphere.

A new rug works wonders to transform your bedroom, and is a great way to add extra comfort and warmth. Choose a rug large enough to extend beyond the foot of your bed and to your bedside tables.

You can also give your bed even more oomph by adding texture with a decorative throw. Itโ€™s a great way to add a sense of luxury and comfort.

The most important thing to remember when updating your bedroom is that itโ€™s your personal sanctuary, so pick a style you love, and fill it with things that make you happy. You probably wonโ€™t need to update it again for a long time!
