Who doesn’t love a hobo dinner? This simple meal idea is an old favorite, but we’ve made it even easier using the air fryer!
Need a hot and hearty meal to serve your crew? This classic foil packet dinner is a breeze to make, you can personalize it for each family member, and clean-up is a cinch. What’s not to love?
You might think of scouting or camping when you think of these hobo dinners, but they’re perfect to serve at home too.ย
When I was a kid, I used to love making my own hobo dinner packet, and we usually popped them in the oven. But, if you have an air fryer, they’ll be ready in a snap.
Let’s get to the how-to!
Air Fryer Hobo Dinner
One of the best parts of this “recipe” is that each family member can create their own hobo dinner. Of course, the other half of the fun is digging into your tasty meal once it’s all cooked up and ready to enjoy.
Here’s everything you need to get started.
Feel free to experiment a little with these basic ingredients. If you don’t like carrots, swap them out for a veggie you like better.
First, place your vegetables on the center of a foil square.
Next, add your burger patty right on top of the veggies, and if you’re using cheese, put it on the burger.
We like to season ours with salt and pepper, but try a little garlic if you’d like, or maybe seasoned salt.
The type of ground beef makes a difference too. You won’t want to use extra lean in this recipe, since the fat from the ground beef keeps everything moist and tender.
Close up your foil packet(s), and air fry for about 20 minutes or until the burger is done and the veggies are tender.
Check for doneness using using a meat thermometer. (Make sure the ground beef has reached 160 degrees.)
You may need to adjust cooking time slightly according to your air fryer brand, design, capacity, and size.
Now, open up the foil packets, and enjoy!ย
Recipe notes:
If you want to put these packets together in advance and pop them in the air fryer later, just keep them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to cook them.ย
Going on a camping trip? Make up a bunch of these and take them along in a cooler to cook over the grill at your campsite!
Here are the time and temperature guidelines for baking or grilling these hobo meal packets:
