Life is crazy, but it is even crazier when you have children. Being a mom is a full-time job. That’s why it’s so important that we make time to unwind and destress. If you aren’t feeling your best, you can’t give your kids the best care either. Prioritizing self-care is a must if you want to be the best parent you can be. Here are a few tips to help busy moms destress.

7 Ways for Busy Moms to Unwind and Destress

Smart Ways for Busy Moms to Unwind and Destress

  • Get Your Priorities In Order

Think about what is important and focus on one thing at a time. If you have a messy house, mountains of laundry, and errands to run, you will likely feel overwhelmed. However, it is crucial to focus on what is important–your kids. While they may drive you crazy now, things will be very different in 20 years. What will matter more, a clean house or your memories together? Don’t put too much focus on things that won’t matter in the future.

  • Enjoy a Special Treat Alone

Everyone has their favorite special treat or activity that helps them unwind. It can be as simple as a green tea latte every evening or a few days away from the kids every month. Whatever your special treat is, make it a priority. It helps you destress and reminds you that your needs are still critical.

  • Learn Your Stress Signs

Knowing how to identify your stress signs will help you know when to take a break. Common stress signs include a racing heart, sweating, and agitation. You may become irritable, and you are might yell or speak in a louder tone of voice. Of course, these behaviors affect your child, so if this happens, it’s best for you both if you take some time to destress.

  • Spend Some Time With an Adult

Spending most of your time only around kids can be stressful. Even if you aren’t the most extroverted person, going out with adults will make you feel better. Consider taking some time off to socialize with family and friends. If you run a business, you could even organize a party with your staff. Not only will this help keep you sane, it also makes the employees happy. It gives everyone time to relax and connect on a personal level.

If you don’t have time for a party, something as simple as chatting with your best friend over a cup of coffee or visiting a local restaurant with your mom is a wonderful escape too. It doesn’t need to be anything expensive or elaborate. Interacting with adults, even for a short time, can have a significant impact on your mood.

7 Ways for Busy Moms to Unwind and Destress

  • Music

Put on some music, and listen to it as you go on with your daily chores. Whether you dance to upbeat music or sit back and listen to relaxing music, the power of music is undeniable. It is perfect for distracting yourself from the stresses of mom life.

  • Fresh Air

Go out, and get some fresh air! Being cooped up in your home for too long eventually affects your mood. Walk around your neighborhood, soak in some sunshine, and connect with nature. You don’t need to do this for a long time. A few minutes of being outdoors is a terrific way to unwind and destress and can make a significant difference in your well-being.

  • Laugh

There is always something to laugh about. You just need to find it. Kids always have a way of making you laugh even when you’re having a bad day. Alternatively, you can sit down with your favorite comedy show.

Mothering is stressful for women all over the world. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you aren’t alone. Simple ways to destress include spending some time with adults, laughing, getting fresh air, and listening to music. Find options that work for you and stick with them.

Music has been a major way I have de-stressed for the last 25 years while parenting. Now, our boys are grown adults and go to concerts with us.
