You’ll need to find out how to register a business of the type you want to start and whether you’ll be subject to legal requirements outside of the state you are registered in (for instance, you’ll need to understand international laws if you plan to do business online with clients living all over the world). 

You’ll also need to find out what types of business insurance is required or strongly recommended for your type of business, what it does and does not cover, and how much the insurance will cost for the size and type of company you’ll be creating. This is because it prompts you to think about the many different aspects of starting, operating, and growing your business.

Social media and general internet marketing can be a good focus for many small businesses, but for more locally-focused businesses — for instance, if you want to open a hair salon, a boutique, or a bar — offline marketing is also likely to play a role in making your business successful. 

It’s never too early to start learning all that you can about these topics, as you begin planning your new business venture.
