Upside is a free app that gives you cash back at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants you’re probably already visiting. No changing where you shop, no coupons to clip. You just open the app, find an offer near you, claim it before you pay, and then check out like you normally would with your usual card. I love how simple it is!
How the Upside App Works
- Open the app and browse offers near you
- Claim the one that matches where you’re already headed
- Pay as usual with your linked debit or credit card
- Cash back lands in your account, usually within a day or two, but can sometimes take a little longer
What You Can Earn
- Gas: typically 10¢ to 25¢ back per gallon, depending on the station and your area
- Groceries and restaurants: a percentage back that varies by store and location
- Cash out to your bank, PayPal, or turn it into a gift card
Good to Know Before You Download
- Offers are based on your location, so what shows up near me might look different where you are
- Only in-person purchases with a linked card count, so delivery and drive-thru mobile orders won’t qualify
- Cash-out minimums are low, so you’re not stuck waiting to rack up a huge balance
Why I Use Upside
I’m the kind of person who hates leaving money on the table, which is why I use Upside. No, it’s not going to pay the mortgage, but those little bits of cash back on gas and groceries I was already buying add up faster than you’d think.
I’ll go weeks barely noticing it, then check my balance and realize I’ve got enough sitting there for a coffee run or a little treat, guilt-free, because it’s money I earned without spending anything extra to get it. That’s the kind of savings I love!
