Do you celebrate small milestones with your kids? Here’s how you can find those mini moments to celebrate, and make life just a little bit sweeter!

Mini Moments to Celebrate

It’s so easy to get lost in the humdrum of the everyday. As moms, our lives can start to feel like a hamster wheel and we’re the hamster. Even though we love the role of mom, we can really start to get down, discouraged, and discontented. We can miss the little things that bring joy because we’re so bogged down with the daily grind.

If this is you, it’s time to embrace celebration! Psychologists have found through plenty of research that savoring those little happy moments throughout your day can make you a happier person in the long run. All it takes is being mindful of the good things in life.

Here’s the best part: these celebrations can be as outrageous or miniscule as your heart desires. I’m no Pinterest-worthy party throwing mom, but I can give my kid a high five or turn up some music for an impromptu dance party or make some ice cream sundaes. The point is to emphasize the good in your life. I can guarantee you the more you celebrate, the more things you’ll find to celebrate!

And when mom’s happy, everyone’s happy!

Mini Moments to Celebrate

What moments are worth celebrating? All the good ones! But if you’re a newbie or are struggling to find the moments worth celebrating, here are some ideas geared toward moms to get you started:

  • Your picky child enjoying dinner
  • A long, hot shower
  • Sleeping through the night
  • Kindness between siblings
  • A clean room
  • Getting out the door without any meltdowns
  • A quality conversation
  • Folded laundry
  • Finding the missing shoe/sock/book/toy
  • A sale on fruit snacks
  • Friends visiting
  • A lightbulb moment
  • Potty training success
  • Impromptu hugs
  • Unspilled milk
  • Agreeing on a family night movie
  • No homework
  • Dressing up
  • Arriving on time
  • An A on a math test
  • Sunshine on a Saturday
  • Sleeping in
  • Willing apologies
  • Fun mail
  • Immediate obedience (no whining!)
  • Sweet, baby snuggles

Mini Moments to Celebrate

Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things. – Robert Brault

How to Celebrate the Little Things

Your day is chock-full of mini moments that are worth noticing. I realize that’s easily said, but not super easy to live. Follow these steps to help:

Stop. The happy moment is fleeting. Put the dishes down before it passes.

Move. You’ve noticed the moment, now it’s time to step out of the routine and do something about it.

Celebrate. There’s no right or wrong way as long as you’re emphasizing the moment! Let these ideas get your creative juices flowing:

  • Give a high five
  • Go out for dinner
  • Share it on social media
  • Order something from your Amazon wishlist
  • Write it down
  • Do a little jig
  • Break out the bubbly
  • Give extra hugs
  • Take a picture
  • Go all out, and throw a party!

Like me, you probably wouldn’t describe the mom life as one that’s always full of excitement and adventure, but celebrating the little things just might change that. When we savor the good, we find even more good. Over time the daily grind becomes our very reason to celebrate! Step out of the hamster wheel every now and then and fill your day with celebration!

We can all get into a rut, but let’s try to find more mini moments to celebrate!

I write them in my journal, or send a quick text to my husband or a friend, or sometimes I just pause, watch, and smile to savor the moment.
