What makes this matcha green tea smoothie recipe so amazing is the clean energy that it gives you. We’re talking kale, matcha, bananas and soy milk — yet it all tastes like green tea ice cream from your local Japanese restaurant. Make it a part of your day!

Matcha Green Tea Smoothie

Lots of us are trying to make better food choices and are steering away from our usual coffee fix. If this describes you, why not indulge in a delightfully refreshing matcha green tea smoothie? It’s the perfect anytime treat, especially when the warmer weather makes sipping hot coffee less than appealing.

The Starbucks version is certainly popular, with many people hitting the drive-thru to make this nutritious drink the start of their day.

That Starbucks version isnโ€™t quite as healthful as it appears to be, though. The Matcha Green Tea Crรจme Frappuccino packs a walloping 65 grams of sugar, 16 grams of fat, and hardly any fiber or phytochemicals to speak of. In other words, it’s pretty much just empty calories.

Matcha tea has been praised for its health benefits, including adding nutrition and helping with relaxation. Those benefits, however, are reduced when theyโ€™re paired with more than double the daily recommended processed/added sugar intake.

Instead, make our delicious Matcha Green Tea Smoothie at home. You can be certain exactly what ingredients are going into your smoothie, and by relying on fresh, whole foods, you can get all the taste and benefits without the unnecessary processed sugar and calories.

Relying on simple, wholesome ingredients like frozen banana for texture, unsweetened soy milk for richness, and even a little kale for an additional nutrition boost, this recipe lets you create a matcha frapp that will truly get your day started right.

Whether you are trying to curb your coffee habit, get more nutrition into your day, or simply cool off with a refreshing treat, this nutrient-packed smoothie comes together in minutes and travels well.

You can toss the ingredients in the blender, transfer it to your travel mug, and be out the door faster than you could make it through the drive-thru line. Not only is it healthier, but itโ€™s a fraction of the cost as well.

Recipe Notes

  • If you don’t have a blender and want to make tasty recipes like this one — I highly recommend checking out this guide.
  • A note about the kale…I made this recipe in a Vitamix which was able to quickly pulverize the frozen kale to the point where I couldn’t see it anymore.
  • If your blender is less powerful and not capable of turning kale into liquid, you may want to leave it out — you may be stuck with little kale chunks that are less-than appetizing for a sweet treat like this one.
  • You can also try blending up the kale with liquid beforehand so you have a smooth slurry that’s easier to work with rather than a bunch of solid ingredients. You really don’t taste the kale either way, but the texture can be off-putting.
  • For an extra boost of nutrition, add in your favorite super greens powder.
  • If you’d like your smoothie a little sweeter, add in some honey or agave syrup.

And, there you have it! Let us know how you like this healthy matcha green tea smoothie.
