How do you welcome fall in your home? Let’s take a look at 10 easy ways to add a touch of autumn to your home decor.

10 Simple Home Decoration Tips to Welcome Fall

The most colorful season of the year is finally upon us, and you know what that means:

Pumpkin-spice everything, sweater weather, glorious produce at the farmer’s market, the beginning of the school year, and everything else that makes this season what it is: the perfect time to get more productive, start something fresh, and give your home a bit of a seasonal makeover.

There are tons of easy things you can do to introduce a bit of fall décor into your home. Here are some of our best ideas to get you going.

10 Simple Home Decoration Tips to Welcome Fall

Cozy blankets

Fall is the perfect time to bust out the blankets and throws: anything that will add a pop of color to the room and keep you warm when the nights get colder.

You can set them up on your sofas and chairs, or use them on your tables as a purely decorative piece when you’re not dining. They also go great on beds, and even on outdoor benches.

The colors to go for are reds, yellows and oranges, but you can also never go wrong with a tartan print.

Pumpkins and gourds

Though pumpkins might sound a bit Halloween-y, adding a couple of smaller ones, and not necessarily orange specimen to a bowl in the middle of the kitchen table can add a bit of warmth to the space. Try to find several different colors that will match with the rest of your space.

You can also go for other fruits: nuts for example, if you’re not a fan of pumpkins.

Fall flower arrangements

Flowers will brighten up any room, and fall colors are unique for going well with most spaces, and you don’t have to think about the color scheme too much.

Fresh flowers are a great way to go, but if you want to keep things even simpler, you can go for artificial flower arrangements. You can get arrangements in gorgeous fall colors, which will complement any area of your home.

Swap out your candles

With brands like Yankee Candle coming out with new seasonal scents every year, it’s easy to find a new candle to welcome fall.

Make sure that the scent is room-appropriate, though: smells like tomato and basil go great in the kitchen, while something cinnamon and spice can go in the living room. Something soothing, like lavender, can be great for the bedrooms.

New throws for the floors

The simplest way to vamp up any room is to change the floor details – carpets and area rugs can change the entire feel of a space. Going for something in a fall palette and pattern can take you out of summer in no time.

Peel and stick wallpapers for the kitchen

If you’re not looking to redo an entire room, just to celebrate the season, you might want to try peel-and-stick wallpapers on some of the kitchen surfaces. The glue should not harm your tiles, and you can add a pop of green or orange into the space, then remove it when springs comes.

fall decor

Fall wreaths

Nothing says welcome to your guests and “welcome fall” like an autumn wreath on the door. Better yet, you can go DIY, and craft fall wreaths with the kids. Make a day of foraging for the materials: leaves, pines, dried fruits and anything else you feel would be a nice touch.

Garlands and lanyards

Another great DIY project if you’re looking to spend some family time together on a Sunday afternoon – cutting out fall shapes and building garlands from them. This can be a great way to add to the color scheme of a room, as well as a proud display of your family’s talents.

Wicker baskets

Not only are they a great storage option, but wicker baskets placed casually at strategic places can also give your home that fall vibe you’re looking for. You can use them for storing keys, mugs, books, or even pillows and throws, if you have particularly large ones at hand.

Firewood on display

Even if you don’t have a working fireplace, adding some logs to the dining or living room can instantly make you think of warm fires and roasted marshmallows.

Displaying your logs might be a bit of a trick, but fashioning a crate out of used materials can be an easy way to solve this problem. Also, make sure you don’t bring any fall creatures along when you’re hauling in wood.

Fall is perhaps the best time to be creative with your home décor. There’s much more to the season than pumpkins and Halloween, so put your creative hats on and start adding in those shades of rust, sunset, and spiced latte. On the other hand, if you’re not a huge fan of the palette, you can always just go cozy, and stick to your usual choices, with a bit more fluff and wool added to the mix.

Which of these ideas do you incorporate into your fall decor? And, which will you use this season as we welcome fall? Leave a comment below.
