This recipe takes you from from frozen chicken wings to ready-to-eat barbequed chicken wings in 30 minutes by pressure cooking and then browning the wings with the air crisp feature! Add some fries, and you’re ready to eat!
As I’m sure you know, instant pots are pretty popular, but I’d held off on getting one. I just wasn’t sure it was something we needed. Then my husband kept mentioning wanting to buy an air fryer, but we held off on that too.
Well, someone was listening, because fate intervened, and I was asked to review the Ninja Foodi. It’s a pressure cooker and air fryer that has TenderCrisp Technology. What does that mean? To put it simply, you get the best of pressure cooking and air frying all in one pot!
In checking out everything the Foodi could do, my first thought was weeknight dinners. If your family’s like ours, we don’t always plan ahead like we should, and we’re left wishing we’d pulled something out of the freezer earlier. That leads to too many take-out or fast food meals–not good for you or your budget. The Foodi solves that problem! You can cook frozen meat (absolutely no thawing needed), along with all your sides shockingly fast. And don’t worry, the flavor is amazing!
The first meal we tried was an easy one, and it turned out so well! This is a variation on the Buffalo Chicken Wings recipe from the cookbook that comes with your Foodi. You can always feel free to change up the spices and sauces to your liking if they aren’t exactly your taste. Just use the cooking times as a guide.
Barbequed Chicken Wings (in the Ninja Foodi)
It’s so convenient to be able to get dinner on the table so quickly. This recipe takes you from from frozen chicken wings to ready-to-eat barbequed chicken wings in 30 minutes by pressure cooking and then browning the wings with the air crisp feature!
We made our favorite store-bought fries as a side using the air crisper, and they turned out terrific. I know this is another feature we’re going to be using a lot! I have never liked overly greasy, deep-fried food, and I know it’s not good for my family. My solution used to be to put foods you often deep fry in the oven, but they would sometimes come out too dry. The fries we made in our Ninja Foodi were perfect–crispy, flavorful, and not greasy at all.
Using the Foodi for the first time, I wasn’t sure how everything would come out. I was expecting there might be a failure (or two) before we learned how to use it, so I’m happy to say that the first meal exceeded our expectations!
And, having had the Foodi for just a short time, there are even more features I haven’t gotten to try yet, but am SO anxious to–the Foodi can also: broil, dehydrate, slow cook, sauté, steam, bake, and roast!
If you’re thinking about getting a Ninja Foodi, don’t wait. This is the one appliance that does everything (and does it well)!
Barbequed Chicken Wings (in the Ninja Foodi)
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup beer
- 2 lbs chicken wings frozen, drums and flats separated
- garlic powder
- Hot Old Bay Seasoning
- cumin
- 2 Tbsp canola oil
- 1 cup your favorite barbeque sauce
Instructions
- Pour beer into pot. Place wings into the Cook & Crisp Basket, and place basket in pot. Assemble the pressure lid, making sure the pressure value is in the SEAL position.
- Sprinkle wings with cumin, garlic powder, and Hot Old Bay Seasoning (or use seasonings of your choice).
- Select PRESSURE, and set to HIGH. Set time to five minutes. Select START.
- When pressure cooking is complete, quick release the pressure by turning the pressure release value to the VENT position. Carefully remove the lid when it has finished releasing pressure.
- Pat wings dry with paper towels, and toss with two tablespoons oil in the basket.
- Close cripsing lid. Select AIR CRISP, set temperature to 390 degrees, and set time to 15 minutes. Select START.
- After seven minutes, open lid, then lift basket, and shake wings or toss with silicone-tipped tongs. Lower basket back into pot, and close lid to finish cooking.
- While wings are cooking, put barbeque sauce into a large mixing bowl.
- When cooking is complete, transfer wings to bowl with the barbecue sauce and toss to coat.
