There are lots of places you can get your credit report and credit score online. The catch is these sites require you to pay for the information. If they say they’re “free,” it usually means there’s a free trial period, and you need to cancel your membership with them or your credit card will be charged.
In case you didn’t know everyone’s entitled to a truly free credit report once a year from annualcreditreport.com. This site will not ask for a credit card number or any kind of payment. You’ll get a credit report from all three credit bureaus here.
This won’t get you your credit score however, and that’s something that’s also very important to know for many reasons–for example, if you’re applying for any kind of loan, sometimes even to get a job! To get your credit score for FREE (and see it every month), you can visit CreditKarma. They’ll provide you with your credit score every month, and unlike the other “free” credit reporting sites, you don’t need to provide payment information or remember to cancel a “free trial.”
You may see ads on this site for credit cards tailored to your credit needs, but you are free to ignore them. You can get your credit score and all the helpful information at CreditKarma at no charge. CreditKarma has been featured in USA Today, on CNBC and the Today Show, Forbes, and in The Wall Street Journal, to name just a few. I have tried it myself and found it to be helpful.
