Our family loves to travel, and no matter where we go, we look for things to do and places to stay that are unique. We try to head off the beaten path path and avoid cookie cutter hotel chains when we can. That’s why I’m so glad I discovered the 21c Museum Hotels.
I was invited to attend a blogging trip to Cincinnati and stayed at the 21c hotel downtown, but you can also find 21c hotels in Louisville, Bentonville, Durham, Lexington, Oklahoma City, Nashville, and Kansas City. (Check their website, because more will be opening soon in Chicago, St. Louis, and Des Moines and may be open already depending on when you’re reading this.)
So, how is a 21c Museum Hotel different?
- Each hotel features curated rotating exhibitions, commissioned site-specific installations, and regular cultural programming at each location (See current exhibit information here.)
- Each restaurant in the 21c family is led by a dedicated chef and has a unique point of view, yet all share a commitment to quality, supporting regional farmers and producers, and genuine hospitality
- The hotel was founded by Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, contemporary art collectors and preservationists who believe in the power of contemporary art
When you stay at a 21c Museum Hotel, you’re staying in a museum. Instead of your hotel being just a place you come back to after a day on vacation, it becomes part of the vacation. There’s always something unexpected to see–like the iconic penguin who turns up in a different place in the hotel every day, and of course the art installations, even the art that’s part of your room!
With that said, the rooms are also spacious, comfortable, and modern. And, as I mentioned above, the restaurants in each 21c are excellent. I stayed in downtown Cincinnati, so we were also within walking distance to more restaurants and things to do, which was a bonus.
I’m so glad to have discovered the 21c Museum Hotels. They turn a hotel stay into a little bit of fun and give you the opportunity to see some amazing art just steps from your room. It’s such a smart concept. I hope they continue to expand to more cities to give everyone a chance to stay at this incredible hotel!
