Kids are very active, sometimes keeping up with their running around and exploring is a little too much. And we all know that once they stop playing and walking towards it can mean one of two things: they are tired or they are hungry. It is more or less the latter than the former.
We always think of different ways to prepare snacks for our kids. Some of us choose from food delivery options, this is obviously faster since the only thing you need to do is to serve it to our hungry kids. But now and then we want to prepare special snacks for our kids, homemade dishes that will hopefully leave them wanting more.
The great thing about preparing their snacks personally is we can make sure that they are healthy. However, healthy food has proven to be a bit on the expensive side. Good thing there is a way to prepare affordable and healthy snacks our kids will love without breaking the budget. Here is how:
Fruits and Cream Cheese Sandwich with Honey Drizzle
This is one of the most cost-effective ways to prepare snacks that can easily fill the stomachs of active kids, and it is very easy to prepare, too!
Cut your bread into triangles, you may choose the usual bread your family uses, but wheat bread adds more texture to the food. Pick their favourite fruit and slice them into bite-sized pieces. Spread cream cheese on the wheat bread, place the sliced fruit on top, and then drizzle honey to finish it off.
Some prefer strawberries, but it is best to choose fruits your kids love to eat.
Yoghurt Popsicles
You may need a mold to make this delicious popsicle, but this is definitely worth the purchase. Kids love desserts, and on a hot day after playing outside, they will devour your healthy yoghurt popsicle.
There are only two steps you need to remember to create this icy treat. First, fill the mold with yoghurt and berries. You can use a pretzel as a stick to make it even more fun to eat, or stick to the traditional stick. Then finally, pop it in the freezer and voila! You have a Yoghurt popsicle treat.

Fruit and yogurt popsicles make a great homemade snack for kids!
Homemade Chips and Fries
We want our kids to avoid turning to junk food whenever they feel the need to eat something. To remedy this, we can create chips of our own. Potatoes or Sweet Potatoes are the only ingredients for homemade chips and fried.
What you do is to cut them in thin slices. You may use a shredder to help you with consistency. Round cuts for chips and elongated cuts for fries. Either drizzle a little bit of olive oil on top of the cuts or do not use oil at all. Pop them in the oven or the microwave, and keep them in until the chips are crispy and the fries are cooked well enough. You can add salt and pepper to give it a bit of taste. There you go, homemade chips and fries!
Tuna Tortilla
The great thing about this is you can allow your kids to construct their own food, you just need to prepare the basic ingredients on the table and let them fill in their tortillas.
Choose inexpensive but high quality tortilla wraps you can find in the supermarket. You may choose to buy a salsa dip or create your own. Then you can make one of two variations for tuna: you can just sauté them in garlic and onion or make tuna salad. Finally, shred some lettuce and grate lots of cheese!
Sometimes, you do not need to spend so much in dishes. All you need to is to dedicate time to pick out healthy ingredients and the mindset to prepare them well. Try out these healthy snacks with your kids, and they will definitely ask you for more.
