learn coding for kids

I use a computer all day every day in my work, and I bet many of you use a computer for at least part of your day too. If you don’t, you use a computer at home, and of course, even our smartphones are computers. We even have robots in our homes–maybe you have a robotic vacuum.

STEM learning is now one of the fundamentals of education, just like reading and writing. If you’re not familiar with the term “STEM,” it stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Instead of reading about science in a book, STEM is a hands-on approach to learning with one of it’s goals to help kids see that science and technology are all around us.

That’s where Mojobot comes in. Mojobot is an action-packed robot that helps kids learn how to code, but not by sitting in front of a computer screen. Instead, it uses physical coding tags that kids can pick up and handle easily. Mojobot is equipped with features like lights, sounds, sensors, motion, and actions. Mojobot can even pick up tokens, carry them around, and deliver them to different locations.

coding game

The creators of Mojobot have created a computer coding language that is screen-free, extendable, and allows the use of parameters, numbers, loops, decision making, sensory inputs and sub-routines. If that sounds complex, all it really means is that you put the coding tags you want (the cards with the numbers and pictures you see above) into the console and press GO, then watch as Mojobot follows your commands!

Watch the video to see how it works–

Mojobot is designed to teach coding in a fun and easy way for kids as young as four, but absolutely any age will love it. You can play this as a competitive board game, or like you saw in the video, kids can set this up and play with it on their own. I LOVE that Mojobot keeps kids busy learning while they feel like they’re playing!

Where can you find Mojobot?

Mojobot is now on Kickstarter through May 8th. I hope you’ll give them your support. If you have kids, this would be a great purchase. Mojobot would also be a great birthday or holiday gift, or even a classroom gift! It’s an incredible learning toy for all ages!
