I recently got the chance to review some essential oils, and one of the things I used them for was to make my own sugar scrub. There are lots of recipes online, but I’m going to share the one I used and ways you can customize it.
The basic ingredients are sugar and oil. I used coconut oil, but you can also use olive oil, almond oil, baby oil, or any oil of your choice. I used regular white sugar, but you can use brown sugar too.
Basic sugar scrub recipe:
Step 1: Use 1 cup sugar to each 1/2 cup of oil, and mix well.
Step 2: For fragrance, add essential oils of your choice. Start with five drops and mix the fragrance into the scrub. Add more depending on your preference.
Step 3: Spoon the sugar scrub into glass jars. That’s it!
I found these glass containers at Christmas Tree Shops, but try your local dollar store, Michael’s, or other craft stores for inexpensive storage jars. Tie a ribbon or raffia around the top for a cute gift!
Substitutions:
Salt scrub: Try substituting salt for the sugar. You can use regular table salt or sea salt. A coarse salt will be too rough for sensitive skin, so use this for exfoliating rough skin on your feet, etc.
Brown sugar scrub: Substitute brown sugar for the white sugar. Brown sugar is softer than white sugar, so this will be gentler and less exfoliating if your skin is sensitive.
Enjoy your frugal sugar scrub, and keep this easy recipe in mind for frugal teacher gifts, holiday gifts, or new mom gifts.
