AMC Theatres and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the “Sensory Friendly Films” program.
In order to provide a more comfortable setting for children and families affected by autism and sensory issues, the movie theaters will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. In addition, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing, as long as there are no safety concerns.
Please check out the AMC’s page on “Sensory Friendly Films” for more information, find the date of the next film, and to find a theater near you.
Update: Marcus Theaters is also offering sensory friendly films. They offer “Reel films for real needs” with lights up and volume down. Find their locations and which films are showing next here.
